Cold and Flu Season is Here!

Along with the recommendation that all staff and students receive the flu vaccine, the Dubuque Community School District will start the implementation of not returning to school until free from fever (greater than or equal to 101 F), diarrhea or vomiting without the use of medications for 24 hours to help reduce the spread of germs that cause diarrhea, colds and influenza. In addition, we will be reminding staff and students of the importance of good handwashing.

World Kindness Day is Monday, November 13!

To recognize World Kindness Day, the PTO will be selling copies of The Kindness Diaries by Leon Logothesis for $8.00, which is half off the cover price. In this biography Logothetis shares his experience circumventing the globe solely on kindness. Rather than using money of his own or accepting any money from others, Logothetis relies on the power of human connection. Through connecting with humans around the world, he finds people who invite him to share a meal, to fill the gas tank of his motorcycle, or give him a place to sleep for the evening. Logothetis shows readers that kindness is indeed a universal language.

Books can be purchased in the main office for $8.00. Checks should be made payable to GWMS PTO. This is a great read in recognition of World Kindness Day or consider giving as a gift this holiday season.

Fall Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences Approaching

YOU’RE INVITED!
Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences will be held on:
  • Tuesday, October 17 from 3:00PM-7:45PM
  • Wednesday, October 18 from 3:00PM-7:45PM
  • Thursday, October 19from 7:15AM-11:45AM
Conferences will be by appointment only on Tuesday and Wednesday. To schedule your appointment please visit https://ptcfast.com/schools/Washington_Middle_School_1. If you do not have internet access, you can call the Main Office at 563-552-4800 to schedule your student’s conferences. A link to our conference scheduler can also be found on our website www.washington.dbqschools.org.

We realize the length for each conference is relatively short. Short conferences are necessary because most middle school teachers see approximately 125 different students in their classes. Short conferences provide an efficiency that is effective for most families. If you feel that you need more time than what we have allocated, please call or email your student’s Homebase teacher and he/she will schedule it with you.
