Wednesday, September 30 & Thursday, October 1, 2020

Be sure to sign up for WTV anchor and crew positions through the link on the Wash website!  If you have questions, just contact Mrs. Schumacher or Mrs. Mozena!

VPA is beginning next week and if you haven't signed up for an activity, you have one more chance to do it!  Head to the Washington website and click on the VPA sign-up link right and fill out the form!  It's really easy to do!

Today’s happy birthday wishes go out to Tristan Perry and Lila Reed on Wednesday and to Garrett Schumacher, Iris Lammer-Heindel, Benjamin Pacetes, and Miata Sprank on Thursday!

Monday, September 28 & Tuesday, September 29, 2020

We are celebrating the freedom to choose what you want to read this week because this week is banned books week in the LRC!  Did you know that the Harry Potter series ranks as the most challenged set of books since the year 2000?  There have been over 3000 challenges against Harry and his friends!

You’d probably be surprised at many other books that have been challenged by people throughout the years!  Luckily, many books challenged do not end up banned so you can still get your hands on them in the LRC.   A quick reminder to return any LRC books you are finished reading to your Language Arts teacher.  The LRC staff will pick them up from those classrooms on a weekly basis.  If you need a book renewed or want to delete a hold on a book, please email either mschumacher or lvogt@ dbqschools.org.

Activity opportunities are knocking on your door! If you want to be involved in WTV or VPA this year, here’s your opportunity to sign up.  WTV will function with a smaller crew this year and VPA will look different as well due to maintaining social distancing and ensuring students' safety. You can find more information by clicking on the links found on the Washington website! You can also find sign up links in your email. Look for an email from Mrs. Mozena that was sent on Wednesday, September 23rd.

Make sure to READ the activity descriptions BEFORE signing up.  Let me repeat that!  Read about the activity and when it meets and check with your parent or guardian to make sure you can commit before you sign up!!!  But then, sign up!  Spaces are going fast and we are super excited to get started!  Please sign up for VPA by Wednesday of this week and for WTV by Friday of this week!  Please email Mrs. Schumacher or Mrs. Mozena with any questions!

When signing up for sports, you MUST complete a sports packet!  It is important that you fill out the ENTIRE form.  Your doctor will fill out one page on the inside, but the ENTIRE form must be filled out ENTIRELY for you to participate!  There are also a couple places that require a student signature as well so please look very closely at the packet to make sure you have completed it ENTIRELY!

Huge happy birthday wishes go out to  Tyler Staley, Arianna Criss, Breeanna Baumhover, and Abigail DeMoss, who will all celebrate on Monday and on Tuesday to Maddie Blum, Jayden Anderson, Abishai Johnson, Riley Block White and Elijah McCalip!  We hope you all have an incredible birthday!

We also like to give you some tips for MAP testing. That's right, MAP testing is later this week, and we want you ready to rock the test.

Wednesday, Sept 30 - Hybrid A Math

Thursday, Oct 1 - Hybrid B Math

Make an effort to get a good night's sleep before testing. Try to a get a minimum of 8 hours, but shoot for 9-10.  Set your alarm for a little earlier so you are not rushed in the morning and have plenty of time to eat a good breakfast.  MORE TESTING TIPS?

It is very important that you bring your laptops fully charged to school each day but especially important on MAP testing days. Please make sure you plug your laptop in before you go to bed so it's fully charged for testing.

And since you mentioned laptops, students, please remember to treat your laptop with care. When transporting it to and from school in your bookbag or laptop case, please power off the device. If you have younger brothers or sisters or pets at home, make sure you set your laptop out of reach when you aren't using it. And please be careful not to eat or drink over the laptop. You can prevent accidents by keep all food and drink socially distanced from your laptop.

If you would like to be an anchor on WTV, now is your chance to sign up! Anchors are the students ON CAMERA reading the announcements from a teleprompter. If this interests you, you must be able to arrive to school and report to room 5 at 7:15 a.m. on the mornings you sign up to be an anchor. When you sign up for a week's spot, you need to pay close attention to sign up for your designated Hybrid week and the specific days we will film. You may sign up for a maximum of 3 weeks of anchor. You will receive an email reminder on Fridays if you anchor for the upcoming week.  The link to sign up is on the Washington website!

All the same information is available for crew positions on WTV as well. The Visual and Performing Arts or VPA team has been hard at work developing a plan for this year's program and while we cannot do a large musical as we have in the past, we are still looking forward to offering some theatre experiences throughout the year in a socially distanced and safe format!  We are currently offering 6 different activities in which students may participate.  As spaces are limited, students will be asked to rank their choices and we will place students while taking preferences into account.

Students will participate only on days they attend school in person and fully online students will be assigned a day to attend.  The descriptions of each event and when the group will meet and rehearse are included in the online sign up form which can be found on the Wash website.  Please check with your parents or guardians before signing up to make sure you can commit to the activity and make sure to list all conflicts you may have with rehearsal times on your sign up form.  Forms MUST be completed by Wed. Sept. 30!  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Schumacher or Mrs. Schramm!

Now we will leave you with the thought of the day:  Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.  The moment you're ready to quit is usually the moment right before a miracle happens.  Don't give up!

If interested, please talk with Mrs. Daughetee or email her at ddaughetee@dbqschools.org All are welcome!

Here's a quick reminder to students to do the attendance check-in on Infinite Campus. Always Online students enrolled in Edgenuity need to do this daily. Hybrid students need to do this on virtual learning days at home. Set yourself a reminder so you won't forget!

Monday, September 21st & Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020

Today is World Gratitude Day!  The definition of gratitude is: the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. Take a minute right now and think about the many amazing things you have in your lives.  It's important to appreciate all the little and big things you possess instead of dwelling those things you don't have!

Mrs. Mozena and Mrs. Schumacher are also working on getting you involved in WTV if you are interested!  We are working out the details and should have more info on how you can join the WTV soon so stay tuned for that in the coming weeks!

Help the LRC celebrate Banned Books week next week and check out a book that has been challenged!  We will have more information this week about how you can get your hands on a banned book from the LRC!
