If you are looking for certain kinds of books and are having trouble finding them in the online library catalog, let your librarians know because they can put them in a collection for you!  For example, let's say that you want to see all the graphic novels we have at Wash or all the books we have featuring cats, they can get those in a neat, tidy collection for you!  Just email Mrs. Hannan for more details!

If you join LEAP on November 10th and 11th, you can make a warm, cozy fleece tie blanket. Students will choose from the fabric provided to make a blanket without any sewing required. At the end, you can decide to take your blanket home with you to keep or to give as a gift to someone, or you can donate the blanket to be given to those in need. 

 

Check out the Dubuque Senior's One Act Play/Film Festival that is happening this weekend! The seating is limited though so make sure to get your tickets soon. Just visit www.dubuqueseniordrama.com for all the details!

 

Next week is Wahawk Pride week and YOU can participate!!!!  It includes dress up days and a super fun tik tok challenge!  Next week on Monday and Tuesday, get comfy because it is pajama day!  Make sure it's school appropriate and no props-like stuffed animals!  Wednesday and Thursday, bust out your favorite headgear for Hat Day!  Remember that hats should not be a distraction from the learning environment and hoods do NOT count as hats!

 

And Friday is Spirit Day!  Wear your GWMS attire and royal blue and white to show your school pride!  We will also have a great tik tok challenge that you will complete in your hombases during the week!  We can't wait to see what our creative Wahawks come up with for pride week!  It's gonna be fun!

LEAP Activities: There is bakeology every Wednesday and Thursday through March!  Students will be able to make yummy treats while making some fun do it yourself projects!

And if you're really into baking and cooking, then you can sign to join every Monday and Tuesday through December 12 to make some great recipes that are perfect for the teenage life!

It's starting to get cold outside, so please dress appropriately! Dig out those cold weather items: coat, maybe a hat, mittens or gloves.

 

A quick reminder that after 7:35 students are not allowed to use their phones again until 2:30.

 

Join the LEAP programs! Find more information on the Wash website and sign up on the board outside the principal's office! Coming up next week on November 2nd and 3rd, you can come and learn about el Dio de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. We will learn more about this special day that originates from Mexico and other Latin American countries. Students will make sugar skull luminaries, a decorative banner, and color pages while watching the film Coco.

Don't forget to sign up for LEAP activities!  There are lots of fun choices coming up!   From homework help to bakeology to do it yourself projects, there's something for everyone out there!  You can sign up outside of the principal's office!

Today we are celebrating a guy who gets it done!  Running the school that is!  That's right! We are celebrating Mr. Howes, our fearless leader, because this month is National Principal's Month!

 

Each October, National Principals Month recognizes the important role that principals play in making a school great. Principals are one of the hardest working, yet often least recognized individuals in education.

 

Principals set the academic tone for their schools, and it is their vision, dedication, and determination that provide the mobilizing force for achieving student success. Each October, we seek to honor these unsung heroes for their tireless efforts in pursuit of excellence in education.

 

And especially, to say thank you to our very own Mr. Howes for making our school so great!   

 

If you signed up for VPA, check your school email by Monday of next week for your placement!  It will include the dates and times you will meet for VPA!  If you signed up, but did not receive an email, contact Mrs. Schumacher!

Students, remember that parent-teacher-student conferences are coming up next week. Be sure to attend virtually with your parents.

 

And since it's conference time, it is also Book Fair time! This year's book fair is virtual, but you still have a chance to win a prize!  During home base you'll receive a flyer with the fair information as well as a wish list. When the fair opens, go to the website, and look at all the great books. Fill out a wish list for the book fair, take a picture of it and send that picture to one of the librarians via email.  We'll put your name in a drawing to win great prizes. Don't forget to give the wish list to your parents!

 

Happy birthday this weekend to Keana Williams on Saturday and Barrett Reed on Sunday!
