Conferences: Wednesday evening 3:15-7:30 p.m. (by appt only) and Thursday morning 7:30-11:30 a.m. (Drop-in teachers' classrooms)


No School on Thursday, Oct. 18 and Friday, Oct. 19.

School fundraiser: Remember the final date to turn in what you earned is October 26.   And remember you only need 12 items sold to go to the Kalahari. The Kalahari isn't the only great prize you can win.  Would you like a chance to win a $100 Amazon card? Sell 30 fundraising orders and spin the Wheel of Fortune. Spin the wheel again for every 10 orders after 30. Every spin is a winner!   

Washington Band: October 29th they march in the Dubuque Halloween Parade!  The Parade will start at 6:30 from Jackson Park to Washington Park. Band Musicians are to bring your instrument home the day of the parade and meet in Jackson Park at 5:30 (no cases).   Costumes are allowed.  No masks and no clowns. Wear a fun and school safe and appropriate costume.  Arrange with your family for a ride to and from the parade Musicians are to bring your instrument back to school the day after the parade. 

Come to the attendance office to sign up for LEAP!  Upcoming activities are on the board located outside of the principal's office and all are welcome at LEAP activities! 

Sports: Girls basketball and wrestling sign ups are up in the attendance office as well. Girls basketball start Oct 23 and wrestling starts Oct 29th.

October 8-12, 2018

Saturday is the big day!  The day of the cabaret!  We hope to see you all at 7:30pm in the auditorium at Senior High School to witness acts of musical genius!  Tickets are $12 at the door!  See you there!

Are you looking to be involved in a winter sport? Because if you are, you should sign up in the attendance office for 7th and 8th grade girls basketball and 7th and 8th grade wrestling! PRACTICE STARTS October 23rd for basketball and October 29th for wrestling!  Speaking of basketball, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Charles Barkley are all bald.

If you haven't returned your track, cross country, and volleyball uniforms to the attendance/activities office yet, you are officially LATE in getting it returned.

Band musicians in grades 6-8 will combine to march in the Dubuque Halloween Parade on Monday, Oct 29th. The parade line is at Jackson Park at 5:30 p.m. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at Washington Park. All musicians are to pick your permission slip and return it to the office or Mrs. Stevens. School appropriate costumes may be worn, but no masks please.  Musicians are responsible to bring your instrument home the day of the parade and get it back to school the following day.  The Band will be playing Thriller. 

Pick up the newest book as well as many other great titles at the book fair, open now and through parent teacher conferences!

Custodian Appreciation Day

Wendy's night for VPA is coming up next Monday, October 8th from 5-7pm.  Make plans now to get dinner at the Wendy's on JFK that night!  The VPA program will benefit from your support and you can enjoy a delicious meal! 

In sports today, you can head out to Manchester at 4pm to cheer on the boys and girls cross country team as they race to the finish of their season!    

And that's not all!  The 7th grade football team will compete against Drexler at Drexler at 4:15pm!  Good luck today to all our Wahawks!

Sports: At 4:00pm 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams will be playing Western Dubuque. 8th grade will play at Drexler and 7th grade will play here.  

The 7th grade white team football players shouldn't let their guard down, as they are playing Mazzuchelli  at 4:15 at Mazzuchelli. Good luck to all our teams today! 

And on a musical note, if you missed the first company meeting for "Seussical", please get the notes from another cast member! There is NO VPA TODAY!  Your next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 9th! Don't forget a pencil and binder, or there'll be no tacos for you!  If you cannot make it to the meeting, make sure to let Mrs. Schumacher know! 

Remember, sign up for the crew for VPA will be after winter break. It's so much fun!  You get to run the lights, design the set pieces, paint a lot, wear cool headphones, and run the works of the play. 

You can also help out in VPA by eating at Wendy's on JFK on Monday, October 8th between the hours of 5 and 7pm!  Mark your calendars now! 

The book fair is coming up very soon in October, so start saving up to make some sweet purchases October 15th-19th at our enchanted forest of books!  Listen to upcoming announcements about your chance to win prizes from your fairy godmothers…or librarians! 

Speaking of the library, if you are interested in being a part of the LRC team and you are an eighth grader, consider applying to be a member of the Library League!  This elite league of extraordinary people fight book crime and promote reading during homebase and beyond.  Applications can be picked up next week during your LRC visits!

LEAP is getting full!  And it's full of fun!  The next event is on Tuesday, October 9th.  Join us for Skull Diggery!  It's a field trip to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium for where you will look at skulls and artifacts to learn more about animals!  Sign up outside of the principal's office! 

Here are two VERY important Reminders!  Student council will meet in homebase this Thursday in the South cafeteria.  And VPA will NOT meet on Thursday of this week but will be back on Tuesday of next week! Questions?  See Mrs. Schumacher or Mrs. Schramm!

Today is World Day of Bullying Prevention, our opportunity to take a stand against it and stomp it out.

Tomorrow is the Rock Climbing Field Trip for LEAP!  This is your last day to sign up for the fun!  Your next opportunity for LEAP fun is next Tuesday, October 9th! It's a field trip to the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium for Skull Diggery where you will look at skulls and artifacts to learn more about animals!  

If you are in the cast of "Seussical", you're first company meeting is tomorrow from 2:30-4 in the auditorium.  If you cannot make the meeting due to sports or other activities, please let Mrs. Schumacher know!  Also, if you are still interested in being on the crew for Seussical, you can sign up after the Holiday break!

Today in Sports, the volleyball teams will be competing against Roosevelt at 4pm today!  8th graders here at Washington and 7th graders at Roosevelt!  Good luck, Wahawks!
